What Is Augmented Reality?
According to Wikipedia, Augmented Reality is "an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content".
In simpler terms, Augmented Reality, is the interaction of virtual content, with the real world, and this is what sets augmented reality apart from virtual reality.
A good use-case of Augmented reality would be in the e-commerce sector: creating a solution where users can place an object(chair) from your store's database into the user's home space in real-time, to test how the furniture will fit, before placing the order.
Now what this mean is that augmented reality has bridged the gap between virtual items and the real world.
Advantages of Augmented Reality.
The field of AR comes with a lot of advantages, and they are:
User Experience: This typically means by using AR, users get to see a unique digital experience from the business, from trying the products on to setting the products in a living room before purchase.
Mobile Use: The general concept for Immersive experience has been with the use of headsets until AR came into the picture with mobile and tablet use, according to Harvard business review: "Augmented reality starts with a camera-equipped device—such as a smartphone, a tablet, or smart glasses—loaded with AR software. When a user points the device and looks at an object, the software recognizes it through computer vision technology".
Industries Using Augmented Reality already.
Medical: Medical schools and training are beginning to use augmented reality in their courses, and structure to give detailed and visual training to their students and increase efficiency when they practice.
Education: With Augmented Reality, learning becomes fun as the students can interact with what they are learning, from notebooks, and flashcards, and see actual images or animations of what they scan through an AR device.
Business: As stated earlier, with AR, businesses can focus on users getting the best experience uniquely, giving them the edge they need.
Get Started.
How to get started, there are several ways to get started in building your own augmented reality web/app, in order not to get you confused, I would recommend understanding how the UNITY game engine works and also having the C# programming language in your tech stack, this will jumpstart your Augmented reality journey faster.
